A part of this might just be me. I’m no fan of “will they, won’t they” style storytelling for a multitude of reasons, some of which are purely aesthetic choices. But sometimes, too strong a devotion to this style of storytelling can start to have a negative impact on the quality of a work. I think the CW DC shows have a consistent problem with how they handle romances between lead characters, and it’s hurting the characters and it’s hurting the shows.

So I wrote an article about it over on Kulture Shocked, discussing how where the emphasis on this kind of storytelling comes from, how it’s hurting the stories now, and what they can do to fix it.
